Cruise

My mom's best friend Kris has always wanted to go on a cruise. She recently almost won a contest to win a cruise and ever since she didn't win, that put the idea in her head that she needed to go on one soon. Being the travelers that we are, my mom and I gladly agreed to go along. Obvi! So we booked a trip and within less than a month we were headed out to open sea. Let it be known that the infamous Carnival cruise ship had not yet made it into port yet when we headed off to Florida. We stayed with my grandma for a couple of days and it was so nice to see her and spend some time with her. The day finally came for us to set sail, on probably the coldest day in Florida history (not really but sort of) but we didn't care because we were cruising. We found our room and introduced ourselves to our stateroom attendant Linda. She gave us the 411 on our room, the amazing balcony we had, and all the services available for us. We walked around the ship for a bit before heading to the top deck to wave at all the people on shore sending us off. Thanks to our balcony, we watched the beautiful sunset as we waived goodbye to the USA. We had dinner reservations at 8pm and met our dinner table guests and waiter, Antonio. It was quite an interesting dinner conversation and I'll just leave it at that. It was a bit rough at sea that night so Kris didn't make it to dinner so we had to fill her in. We were on our way.

Maroon 5!

Jenni has more luck than a leprechaun, I swear. This time around, she won tickets to the Maroon 5 concert.... plus a limo ride to and from the show... plus backstage passes to meet the band Neon Trees in Omaha. For obvious reasons we were pretty excited about it. You might be thinking, "why does Jill always get to go with Jenni to all these shows?" I often think that myself. The reality is that Jenni and I share an equal love for live music and we have found that we don't quite have as much fun at shows if either of us is not there. THUS, whenever we get the chance, we go to as many as we can (which includes contest winning shows). Owl City opened the show and basically exploded our ear drums. I didn't realize Owl City was going to be there so it was a nice surprise. They (he) did great and I loved the performance. Then came our new friends Neon Trees. Super eccentric and interesting to watch perform but I thought they did really well too, minus the volume. I don't know if it's because I am older now or what but I thought my ear drums were bleeding. It was SO loud in there and it took me a few days for my ears to recover. Finally it was Maroon 5's turn. They opened with Payphone and it was all screams, shrills, and faints from then on. The ladies LOVE Adam Levine. It's quite funny to watch and hear them shout. Me, he's not my particular flavor but I totally get it. Jenni and I did meet him last summer after all and gave him a little side hug so, we get it. In comparison to last summer's show, they seemed to have so much more energy then, but their most recent cd is a bit more mellow so I guess it makes sense. We still had a great time dancing and singing along. For the seats being free, they weren't too bad. They really put on a great show and we had a fantastic time. If I could have a limo pick me up at the door after every show, that would be ideal. We made it home safely (sans puking... ahem Jenni) around 2 am, took a quick snoozer, and headed to work. It was a whirlwind trip but worth it.

Wisconsin

I can't remember if I posted anything from the trip up north to Wisconsin or not so ... here it is. Mom, Dad, and I went to Wisconsin to visit Jon and Krista and Kelli came along with us. What a treat for her to experience a little bit of the Trost family, smooth Jazz Julie and all. After a night in Appleton, we made our way to Madison to watch Matt's hockey game. It's the only time you will see me wearing anything Wisconsin and it has to say "hockey" on it. Go Hawkeyes!
