Carrie Underwood: Blown Away Tour

Jenni, the lucky duck that she is, won tickets and I pretty much asked if I could go along. :) Hunter Hayes was the opener and did a great job. He has such an interesting voice and I really love his album so I was excited to see him perform again. Then it was Carrie's turn. The opening notes were fantastic but as soon as she finished her first song she started speaking into the microphone and it was clear something was up. I looked over at Jenni because I wasn't sure if that was Carrie talking or a man... turns out Carrie had some sort of cold/bronchitis/flu/strep/sickness and she was losing her voice fast. When she was singing, you could barely tell but as the night went on, her voice just started to disappear. I felt so bad for her trying to belt out these notes when clearly, her voice and throat were not up for it. YET, she still hit everything! At one point she came out and apologized to the entire crowd saying that she has never lost her voice before and that she was giving all the money made from the concert that night back to the city of Des Moines since she felt it was wrong to take money from this show. I was still blown away (pun intended) by her performance so I really didn't care. She did an amazing job. Another part of the show I loved were the outfit changes. She has an incredible wardrobe and I wanted all of her dresses, and her hair, and her makeup, and etc. It was a great concert and I was super impressed with her. The encore, where she sang Blown Away, was spectacular. It really looked like a tornado was on the stage! What a fun night it was.

NYE 2013

Sparklefest 3000. New Year's Eve is one of the only times that you can legitimately get away with wearing as many sparkles as you can. This year, because we weren't have a themed dance party, I went with a VERY sparkley top. I wasn't mad about my decision. :) Happy New Year!

Christmas 2012

I had a wonderful Christmas this year spending it with family and friends. Thanks to a pesky little snowstorm by the name of Draco (Harry Potter anyone?!) I was a bit delayed in beginning my road trip north. Eventually, I ventured out onto the road and what usually takes me a little more than 2 hours to get home took almost 4. Thankfully, everyone arrived home safely for Christmas. Mom, Kim, Kris, and I went to the Jim Brickman concert to kick off the Christmas weekend. Naturally, we laughed a lot about who knows what. We celebrated Christmas with the Meyers next and had a great time. I'm not quite sure how many bottles of wine were left by the end of that night but the Meyers are always entertaining. The Trost Christmas was next which always brings out our competitive spirits. My aunt Laurie somehow put Jon and I on the same team this year which, obviously, meant world domination. George was our captain and led us to a well deserved victory in the annual Trost Christmas Competition! On Christmas day we went to see the movie Les Miserables. I cried like a baby through half of it. It's that good. Christmas 2012 was wonderful and I'm thankful I was able to celebrate with so many family and friends.
