Dilemma

Here's the deal. I was at the gym today and to me, it's important to get the right treadmill. If you're going to have a great workout, you need to make sure that its got good traction, the tv and sound work, the sun is not blazing in through the window in your face, and most importantly the people next to you are, well, normal.

So today I get to the gym and I jump on my treadmill. I quickly find out that the tv doesn't work so I'm going to have to use the one next to me. Here's where the problem starts: I start out jogging to get my rhythm and speed up. About 2 minutes in, I notice the guy next to me is just sweating profusely. I mean, dripping lakes here people. I can handle sweat as long as he's not swinging it my way but that's not his problem. He doesn't smell all that pleasant! So, here's my dilemma. Do I get off my treadmill and go to another one or do I just suck it up and run? I decide to keep running for another minute but it just keeps getting worse. I try all sorts of things like breathing through my mouth instead of my nose, looking the opposite direction, smelling my shirt however, to nothing works. At this point the gym is getting pretty packed and I'm gagging internally. If I get off my treadmill now and go to another one, it'll be really obvious that I didn't want to run by this swamp sweat guy. Do I just cut my run short? What to do, what to do? Finally, he slows down and I think to myself "this is it, he's done and I can run in peace." NOPE, he just walks for a bit and then picks up his speed again. No more treadmills are left for me to move to and at this point, what's the use, I can no longer smell anything with my nose. I run as fast as I can to finish my run and hop off the treadmill and take a giant breath!

I guess the positive was that I ran faster and probably got a better work out...... not worth it! :)

Thankful

A good friend shared these verses with me yesterday... i think i need to tatoo them to my forehead.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 6, 10-11

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

RIP Biggie Smalls

To all Adagio Members:
It was with much sadness that the movie inspired by my late husband, the Notorious BIG, was released this past Friday. I couldn't bring my self to get up from my state of dispair and drag myself to the theatre. However, my heart is full at the moment, thinking back on the time Biggie and I shared. Big Poppa, what a wonderful man of hip hop you were and will forever remain in the hearts of many. In memory of his life, I will listen to Diddy's rendition of "I'll Be Missing You" on repeat all day long.

Signed, JT

Followed with comforting words by fellow Adagio members:

"It's just too soon for me to talk about it. My feelings would best be described in dance, a ribbon dance." Lucky Star

"Biggie, you brought so much to all of our lives. I will remember you fondly and honor your memory with my dance moves." Janice aka Janer

"I was thinking about that when i saw the preview...RIP Christopher Wallace if that was your real name (that was it right) Aka Big Poppa, Biggie Smalls, Notorious BIG..."we'll be missin you" Spicey Cat

Winter hates me...

Walking in to work today, my face literally felt like it was going to fall off. i couldn't feel my toes, let alone my legs to propel myself faster into the building... winter blows. I don't know how many times I can say it but it becomes more true every day! I was greeted by this lovely email today which basically tells the truth about Iowa:

WINTER Poem

It's winter in Iowa
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At thirty-five below.

Oh, how I love Iowa
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Iowa
Cuz I'm frozen to the ground!

This morning on the news I heard that it was colder in Iowa today than Alaska by almost 60 degrees. Iowa -17 (not including wind chill) and Alaska was 44 degrees. Shoot me now. I know some of you may think, "why complain, nobody is forcing you to live in Iowa" and you're right. But I guess there's just something about being an Iowa girl that makes me feel tough and I'm not ready to give that up yet. So for the mean time, I'll just freeze to death. :)

Twilight .... according to Kelly Kapoor

by Kelly Kapoor

OMG you guys! This month my life is all about Twilight! I've seen the movie six times and I'm seeing it three more times this weekend. I used to want to be a Vampire Slayer like Buffy because I thought all Vampires were these creep-ola guys with bad eyebrows that didn't respect a girl. That was before I saw Twilight. Robert Pattinson is doing for Vampires what Orlando Bloom did for pirates. Now, I totally wanna be a Vampire's girlfriend.

Vampires these days are super cute and super sensitive. They may suck your blood, but they'll wait until you're ready, and then send you a facebook message the next day to tell you how special it was. Plus Vampire boys are pretty; they have smooth soft skin, defined cheekbones, and long eyelashes - so hot! If Kristin Stewart doesn't know how good she has it, Robert Pattinson should stop by my place after dark. We can hold hands and talk about why he's so mysterious! AH, I love it! They've already started working on the sequel! I can't wait!! TWILIGHT!!!

Direction...

"It is easier to serve God without a vision, easier to work with God without a call, because then you are not bothered by what God requires; common sense is your guide veneered over with Christian sentiment. But if once you truly hear the full commission of Jesus Christ, the awareness of what God wants will be your goal from that point on, and you will no longer be able to work for Him on the basis of common sense." Oswald Chambers - My Utmost for His Highest

I've had this posted at my desk for a little over 2 years now and have read it countless times. I went to throw it away today because its all torn and basically falling apart, so I read it one last time. I think this sums up a lot of things in my head … do I truly hear or am I just going off of my own common sense. Unfortunately, I know my answer. Common sense is easy, its what comes natural…. But we're called to die to ourselves, our whole self. While that's tough, it's what we need to do.

Btw.. I didn’t throw the paper away. I need the daily reminder.

Stuck..

Do you ever feel like you're stuck, like you can't go forward and you can't go backwards? You can't move forward because you're thinking about the way things were and you can't go backwards because that’s not progress and you've already been there so why go back. (did that make any sense?) I sit here, my head spinning in circles, driving myself crazy over things that I can't control that I think I should be able to control. Sure there are certain things I could do to guide things in my life but sometimes I think what's the point. Its not really mine to control (do you follow). I think that whatever's going to happen is going to happen, regardless of what I choose (that's being na├»ve at it's best!) That only drives me further away into what I consider the middle ground. You know you have to take a step in one direction, but figuring out where to step, how big of a step, what shoes to wear when taking that step… you just don't know. You feel like you know what you're supposed to do but there's that feeling that you may not be willing to let go of… so you stand there, holding on to whatever, unwilling to move forward or back. You're stuck. And that's life.

And btw, winter blows!
