The Kountryside

Every summer I struggle with the feeling that I shouldn't be in Des Moines but inside a barn that is hotter than hades, surrounded by kids dressed in crazy costumes who havent showered, singing songs at the top of your lungs, sweating all day long, working alongside the greatest friends who would do anything for you, being led by directors who I strive to model my life after, did I mention sweating all day long, all while praising the Lord. It must be kamp time!

This past Memorial weekend I got the privilage to spend some time at the Kountryside visiting friends and having a great time. Janie and I watched some movies, baked some cookies, laughed a lot, you know, the norm. I love that girl. No matter how far apart we live or how often we talk, her friendship is like no other. I've been gone a day and I miss her already. But enough about Jane, she knows shes cool!

I got to spend some quality time with friends I see about once a year. So naturally, I have to take advantage of it when I can. Sarah B, the sweetest girl on this planet and also really funny. Shes got some great stories which, wow, I laugh my head off every time. The Bretts - McLaughlin and Myles - quality guys with quality hearts. McL knows he's got the rhythm that makes the ladies go crazy and Myles, I just love to talk baseball with him! I can't say enough good things about them. Heather - love her! I definitely dont see her enough. Lundeen - my most favorite blond, marathon star, swedish, auburn alum, law student friend. Its always a good time when Lundeens around. We have the greatest conversations talking about nothing. What I love about the Sache is that we can laugh at anything. This girl doesn't know how much I love her friendship. Rudy, oh Rudy, what a guy, what a pal. The only thing I dislike about Rudy is that he's a Cardinals fan and that pretty much sums it up! Jason, my best friend, if only he could be me for 2 seconds to see himself and how much he's changed in the past 2 years. (did that sound weird?). He's super motivated to run all these races and do some iron mans and I have all the faith in the world that he can do it. Me, I'll be that friend rooting him on at the finishline :) Jason's another who I dont think realizes what a great friend he is to me. Katie H, I could hug that girl every day! Then there's Katie and Pete and little ryles. They are a great inspiration, they challenge me to be a better person, and I will always have a special place in my heart for the Newman family.

K-Kountry is a place where I've met some of my best friends, where kids have impacted my life more than I realize, and I've come to know the Lord in way that I never thought possible. God is so good.

My birthday is here!!!

I woke up bright and early this morning to a bird chirping outside my window. It really was a pleasant sound. I got ready for work slowly with no rush so that I would just feel relaxed when I came in to work today. My coworkers bought me flowers and all day I felt like I was sitting in a meadow with the smell of spring flowers all around me.

One of my coworkers brought in pastries for everyone so I got a dutch letter. Oh so tasty! We also played a little catchphrase which is always a welcome break. Tonight I went to my cousins graduation and got to see all of my family. Its still hard for me not having my grandpa there but I know he's with the Lord and he's happy.

I will take time today to appreciate everything. My family, my friends, the weather, the tv show The Office, good food, etc. :) It’s a great day to be alive. I'm so glad I was birthed on this day, 24 years prior. Happy Birthday to me.

Music of the Day: Justin Timberlake all day long
Weather: A mazing!
Dessert: it’s a dessert day all day long!

Birthday Celebration Countdown Day 2

From head to toe I am dressed in Gap attire. You know those feelings of when you walk in to a store and you realize that everything you have on came from that store. That’s how I feel today. When I say everything, I mean everything, even my shoes. Perhaps I should expand my wardrobe. Oh well.

Today we are going to paint pottery. How fun will that be. I will have to put my creative skills to the test to try to wow my boss (probably not going to happen as she's very crafty). I always enjoy our little team events. Lunch out on the town, a fun little activity, great conversation. What a way to spend this lovely hump day. I'm usually not a fan of Wednesdays but this Wednesday means its just one day closer to the big birthday. Enjoy your day, peace out brussel sprouts.

Artist of the Day: Hanson (yes I said hanson)
Weather: Glorious sunshine with a bit of a breeze
Dessert: I'm treating myself to a bagel from Brueggers! I had a little ice cream too!

Birthday Celebration Countdown Day 3

Well, the rain puts a damper on things but not my spirit! That’s for sure. Last night was a funny funny night watching kids run around the klife house, participating in games such as the bottle log, a rope swing, or desert island. I even had a little soft serve, thanks to the Colby's. It was a wonderful night (a little on the warm side and the mosqitos were out) but nonetheless, klife is done for the year. I will say the funniest part of the night was when Mitch, a 20 year old volunteer, ran smack into the screen door and basically just fell over. I about had a hernia laughing so hard!

Tonight I wilst return my library books, then head home for some American Idol and Gilmore Girls Series Finale. I'm sure it will end how we all expected it to. What a run those gilmores have had. Today I chose to wear a skirt and my pink polo. I kind of wish I had a headband in but I was running really late this morning and did not have time to really get ready at all. Whoops. Oh well. Its Tuesday….only a few days more till the weekend.

CD/Artist of the Day - Matt Wertz
Weather: Raining

Birthday Celebration Countdown Day 4

Let the party begin. Its Monday, its wonderfully warm outside (on the verge of hotness by noon) and I am wearing a new shirt I bought this weekend. I must say, its quite cute. I had a really good mothers day yesterday even though I didn’t get to see my madre. Lots of people around the house, picnic outside, got a good workout in, etc etc etc.

Tonight I have blowout Klub for Klife which is always fun. We have a challenge course all set up which always makes for an interesting evening. Then Runs House! Whats more exciting than that.

CD of the day: James Morrison - Undiscovered
Weather: Simply beautiful

Word to your mother

I wish I had some great story to tell or something inspirational to write but frankly, I just love my mom and thats all I gots to say! What a lady. The many who have had the chance to be in her presence have been wowed by her charm. She's a lady who can whip up a mean "cut out" cookie; balance a demanding schedule between work, kids, and a social life; keep the Trost residence looking oh so spiffy; and well, she finds time to look slim and trim! What a lady, what a gal. Thats my momma. Everybody thinks their mom is the greatest but nobody has a mom like Julie. She truly is the greatest! word to your mother

ps. the birthday countdown is on......

Sad days.....

Yesterday my grandpa passed away. Even if you prepare for someones passing, it never makes it easy. The littlest things spark tears of saddness, tears of joy, tears of remembrance. My grandpa was the most courageous man I've ever known. A surviving prisoner of World War II, his stories of courage and strength I will always remember. I'm going to miss seeing him when my family gets together, the Casey's donuts that would appear every morning because he was up before the sunrise, his hugs. I'm going to miss the way he used to sneak $10 into my hand so my parents wouldn't see, how he and my grandma would come to as many sporting events as they could, the family vacations. I'll miss how he'd be waiting there at the end of an event to tell me good job and give me a hug! I can't express enough what a great grandpa he was to me, what a great dad he was, or what a great husband he was. I know there will be rough days ahead where all I'll want to do is sit with my grandpa, but I know I'll be okay. The Lord knows the number of our days.... he will be dearly missed.
I love you Grandpa.
