Growing up in the church doesn't mean we grow up in the church. Its just like, just because you spend time with believers doesn't mean you are growing up in Christ.

Colossians 2:1-7

Growing up means:
1) Becoming strong in heart
2) Deeply united in love
3) Confident in knowning Christ: not worried about what we don't have. We are given wisdom and knowledge and God expects us to use what He has given us to answer some of our questions. We have the ability to.
4) Firmly grounded in truth
5) Daily walking in Christ : rooted, built up, strengthened in faith
6) Overflowing with gratitude (thankfulness)

WDM Weekend

A few weekends ago was a little get together of many friends of which I have not seen in a long time. The pictures that follow are of the weekend. I suppose I can title the weekend WDM Weekend since that's where the festivities took place. Hope you enjoy, as I know so many of you do, the glorious pictures of my life in the big city in the sky with my friends....

Left: This is a picture of the Nixon's standing in front of a magazine cover with Uncle Nixon at Buzzard Billies. Wasnt he such a great man!

The above picture is of us ladies (Jane, Beth, Me, Jenise, and Hayl) at Miss Kitties. Yes, its true, I have a sweater on! You know me though, I make the most of any situation.

I'd like to introduce you to Duke, the newest edition to the Nixon family. Isn't he the cutest little dog. Watch out though, he's a biter. Below is Hayl with Duke. Again, he's biting that little bone. And as I'm talking to Hayl on the phone right now, he's biting!

As stated in a previous blog, a bunch of Klifers and Kanakukers went to see Brian Regan. Well, this is him. The picture below is of Tiff, Cory, Brandon, Pete, and Rocky at Brian Regan. It was so much fun, my cheeks hurt. It was also great to see Pete and Brandon.
And to round out the picture show, below is a picture of Beth, Hayl, and I at the Iowa Stars Hockey Game. The boys wanted to go sit in the front row and its to scary for us girls down there so we decided to stay back. Good thing too as Doug got beer spilled on him and his jacket.

Well, that pretty much recaps a lot of the weekends activities, well at least events that I had my camera with me.

The difference between an easy life and a great life is your willingness to get involved in ministry.

Colossians 1:24-29 - "I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God's people. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. Thats why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ's mighty power that works within me."

1) You must be willing to suffer.
2) You must be willing to serve.
3) You must be willing to struggle.

Ministry is serving others to advance the kingdom of God. I've really been thinking about this lately and struggling and thinking and serving and thinking.... I guess what I've taken out of what I've been studying is that I need to focus on pursuing God's purposes. That will make the ultimate difference between having an easy life and living a great life.

In honor of the Olympics...

The battles that count aren't the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself—the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us—that's where it's at.

Jesse Owens (1913-1980)

I love the Olympics. I really can't get enough of them. I'll be sad to see them come to an end at the end of this week. BUT, with March comes one of my favorite times of the year. MARCH MADNESS!

Brian Regan

Sunday, February 12th (also my brothers birthday), some kanakuk folk as well as part of the Des Moines Klife gang headed to the Hoyt Sherman Theatre for a little show by mister funny man himself, Brian Regan. My very first summer at K-Kountry, Brandon Harrison was about 8 years old and he stood in front of the entire kamp and did stand up Brian Regan. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen and will remain forever as one of my favorite kamp memories. Brandon was in my brother barn so we considered ourselves friends. Brandon was back at kamp a few summers after that and I got to see him at konnection too.

Well, Pete Newman and Brandon made the trip to Des Moines along with a few other Kanakukers like Paul, Jane, Cooper, Cory, Tiff, Rocky, and myself. Let me tell you, I was laughing so hard my cheeks hurt.

The opening act wasn't the best. In fact, Jane and I found ourselves laughing at how the guy talked and ended all is jokes in a really high voice. That became humor in itself.

Brian Regan, however, was hilarious. Plus, being anywhere with Pete Newman always makes for a great time. He makes any get together 10 times better. Brian had a laughing about hump boy, ham, wind chimes, and canon balls. Sorry if you missed out but it was a great time!

ps. so I found my valentine, he just doesn't know it yet!

Happy Valentines Day!
In honor of this special day, I decided to let Gavin speak his mind. I love this song and did I mention, its 61 degrees outside AND I live in Iowa, AND its February!

When my pass came in, you dropped the ball
It didn't change the way I feel
And I was wishing I'd break down your walls
The kiss will know if the lips stay still
There is a line I crossed
And when you missed I lost
I'm not a loser
Boy, you know that I'll be back again
My dear, I went for the steal
Maybe it was rushed
Oh, my crush,I've got a crush
I suppose that I could hold it in
But you excite my every cell
Sources say that sense are your friends
My senses say that I should tell
You that I"m not ashamed
You might just feel the same
But I have to try it
If you're ever really going to know
My dear, I went for the steal
Maybe it was rushed
Oh, my crush, I've got a crush
I want to
I need to
I have to have you
You're so much to touch
Boy, you're too much
And I can't control it - You've got me all over the road
My dear, I went for the steal
Maybe it was rushed
Oh, my crush
Damaging my soul
You blew me off, but I don't mind
i just get better with time
And so do you
So do you
My crush

Konnection 2006

I decided I wanted to post a few more pictures of my kamp friends. I can't get enough of my kamp friends. They truly are one of a kind and I wouldn't trade their friendship for anything in the world. They are what made my kamp experience what it was. I love you guys! The top picture is ofTBone, Sarah, Payne Train, myself, and Kelley at Dana's Barbeque. We love Dana's!

In this picture are my favorite Bretts and Mr. One of a Kind Austin! We ate at where else, Dana's Bar-b-que! A staple in the Branson dining experience. I everyone already.

Myself, Brett, and T-Bone before the Shawn McDonald Concert. What a great concert.

Can you say Amazing. Shawn McDonald has some of the best songs and fabulous lyrics. It was a great concert. I loved it!

Last but never least, my great friend T-Bone. Words can not describe her or our friendship. She has a unique sense of humor and once you meet her, you'll want to be best friends. We're Iowa girls and we love it. We laugh our heads off when we hang out and I can't wait to see her again. T-Bizzle, love you! I'm glad we are matching in this picture.

ps. make sure you wish my brother a happy birthday. It was yesterday!

Friday, February 10, 2006

So I preordered Shawns new cd today so have no fear, you can burn it from me. I dont mind. Anyways, I was listening to his cd today because I'm so excited for the new one and I thought I'd just post one of my favorite songs. I can't say that its my favorite favorite because I have so many favorites but its definitely up there in the top favorites of the favorite favorites that I have, follow?

Written by Shawn McDonald

As I look into the stars
Pondering how far away they are
How You hold them in Your hands
And still You know this man
You know my inner most being, oh
Even better than I know, than I know myself
What a beautiful God
What a beautiful God
And what am I, that I might be called Your child
What am I, what am I
That You might know me, my King
What am I, what am I, what am I
As I look off into the distance
Watching the sun roll on by
Beautiful colors all around me, oh
Painted all over the sky
The same hands that created all of this
They created you and I
What a beautiful God
What a beautiful God
And what am I, that I might be called Your child
What am I, what am I
That You might know me, my King
What am I, what am I
That You might die, that I might live
What am I, what am I, what am I, what am I
What am I
What am I
What am I
What am I
What am I

Konnection 2006

I just thought I should post a few pictures from Konnection 2006 weekend. Its amazing how fun and comforting it is to be back in Branson. Everything becomes familiar again and aside from the lack in tourists and bare trees, it's like you never left. The top picture is of Brett, myself, and Bryan before the Shawn McDonald concert. Two of my favorite Oklahoma friends!

Chris, myself, and Parker at Crackerbarrel. Two of the nicest guys you will ever meet!

Brandon and I at the end of Konnection. Brandon was a kamper in my brother barn my first summer at K-Kountry. Him doing standup comedy will remain as one of my favorite all time memories of kamp.

Things are looking up...
This past weekend I had a grand ole time. Saturday I met Jenise for breakfast and fellowship. It was so good to just sit and chat. We ended up staying at Panera until about 12:45 because I had to meet Brooke for lunch.
I met Brooke for lunch at Palmer's, so great to see her and chat with her as well. We hit the mall for a quick spin and then she went to her sisters house. I made a quick trip to the grocery and then went home to take a little snoozer.
Jenise and I went to the Drake basketball game and it was so much fun. They played Creighton and it went into overtime. We (Drake) came out on the losing end but nonetheless, it was fun. Afterwards, we decided to catch the late showing of "End of the Spear." Such a phenominal movie. Wow.
Sunday was church and the pleasure of sitting with Katie and Tony as well as Hayley and Michael. Right smack dab in the middle of two married couples (the story of my life). But it was so great to be there with them. After church, the Colbys, Nixons, Bauers, and myself went to lunch. Such fun.
Then the Superbowl. Klife had a big party, complete with our own halftime show. It was hilarious but you had to be there. All in all, it was a great weekend. However, next weekend may rival the past as
1) Janie is coming home
2) Another Drake game with Jenise
3) Pete Newman and Brandon Harrison are coming
4) Pete and Brandon, along with a few klifers are going to see Brian Regan. Yeah!
5) Its the weekend!

today just might be one of the saddest days of my life....
