Labor Day at the Lake

I spent Labor Day this year in my hometown with my family and some good family friends. The weather was perfect and it was quite wonderful. We grilled, played some bags, took a few spins around the lake on the boat, and enjoyed the day.
(please ignore the ISU bags.. we do not own those)

Pretty Pretty Princess

Happy Birthday Andrea! If you can't tell from the title of this post, we helped Andrea celebrate her birthday by throwing a pretty pretty princess party complete with formal gowns and a nail salon.

Wedding: scary garri style

Congratulations to Ashley and Josh on their marriage. Here are some pictures from the day.
(totally random tangent but why do we say congratulations on someone's wedding day? Like, congrats, you finally found someone who wants to put up with you for the rest of your life?! To me, I think we should say "blessings" or "good luck" or "well wishes to you and your future". They haven't really done anything yet. Anyone can marry someone. I mean, I think we should save the congratulations for when someone has made it to 20 years (or even 5 in this world). Now that deserves the congratulations.

Iowa State Fair!

The second best thing about the Iowa State Fair, coming in close behind the amazingness that is a corndog, is the free concert stage. The fair does such a great job of getting the most random yet entertaining artists to come to the fair and play on the free stage. Everyone from The Band Perry to Vanilla Ice has played on the free stage. Everyone knows I love concerts but who doesn't love a FREE concert. This year I saw 2 free shows. The first: Hunter Hayes. You guys, it was insane! The venue was packed full of girls who screamed their heads off (I may have screamed once or twice). It was so loud though, those girls screamed their hearts out for Mr. Hayes. And he did a really good job too. It was quite the entertaining night.
The other free show I saw at the fair was... wait for it... BOYZ II MEN! Talk about a throwback show. It was incredible. We had so much fun reminiscing to the old days when we used to dance with our middle school boyfriends/girlfriends to these songs and how Motownphilly was my jam! I choreographed so many dances to that song back in the day. People literally lost their minds when they started singing this song. I think one of the things I loved most about this show was that they still did all of their same choreography. They're just the same guys who love to sing and dance. Why change a good thing? What a fun concert with some super fun people.
No I'm not taking a picture of this guys butt. I just had to post this picture of this girl. She literally sat like this the entire show. Lame.

NYC: Day 6

Our final day. Tear. What should we do on our final day? 1st: Jamba Juice! As we walked out the doors of our hotel, we literally walked right onto the film set of the NBC tv show Smash. We didn't know what was going on at first (until I got my on-set location app out and figured out what was filming). We watched them film for a couple of minutes (after we moved off set) and it was a pretty neat experience. 2nd: SHOPPING! We hopped on the Downtown bus loop for one more final ride. We stopped in Soho to make sure we didn’t miss any great deals at the H&M or Top Shop. We checked out every street vendor selling cute jewelry to just to know for certain that we hadn’t passed up anything spectacular. We stopped at the cupcake window that we’d been staring and drooling at all week every time we drove by and finally sampled some mini cupcakes. We took the subway to Grand Central Station to marvel at the really cool ceiling and eat lunch with all of the other day to day travelers. We ended our day with a walk back to the hotel where we called a cab and headed back to the airport. I was sad to see the trip come to an end. We had so much fun and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! We saw everything we wanted to see and experienced so much and I’m so thankful for the friends I traveled with. It made my first trip to New York truly memorable! I can’t wait to go back!
